The dust of ceramics, Chromium-Cobalt, quartz, gypsum, acrylic, asbestos and plaster, arising while working in the dental laboratory, is extremely hazardous for the health of the dental technician. It causes allergies, eye irritation and is an overall hazard both for the staff and the equipment in the laboratory. While dust particles, larger than 10 microns are expelled usually by the natural defenses of the body, particles, smaller than 10 microns, can penetrate deep into the lung alveoli and contribute to progressive, non-reversible, long term pathogenic reactions.
